Yingke Law Firm Held A Public Lecture on Civil Code with CPPCC DAILY

For the purpose of publicity and practice of the Civil Code of the People’s Republic of China (“Civil Code”) and deepening the understanding on the Civil Code for the functionaries of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the CPPCC DAILY held a public lecture on the Civil Code with Yingke Law Firm in Henan on the afternoon of September 14, 2022, during which Mr. Mei Xiangrong, Founding Partner, Chairman, Global Board Director of Yingke Law Firm, and Mr. Ge Lei, Senior Partner of Beijing Yingke Law Firm, shared valuable thoughts. 

The lecture was moderated by Mr. Lv Yan, Deputy Secretary-General and Director of General Office of Henan Provincial Committee of the People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and attended by the leading members of the bodies and the heads of special committees under the CPPCC Henan Provincial Committee. Members of the CPPCC Henan Provincial Committee also watched the lecture online via Tik Tok. 

Mr. Yang Tonglian, Deputy Director of the CPPCC DAILY gave a speech at the commencement that introduced the progress and achievements of the publicity of Civil Code nationwide and highlighted the relevance and significance of the Civil Code in our daily life. 

Mr. Mei Xiangrong introduced his experience in studying the Civil Code and expounded the Civil Code on the overview, compilation and significance, with emphasis on the background, structure and importance of legislation. The people-oriented Civil Code, in his words, effectively responded to the demands and needs of the Chinese people, making it an exemplary code for the rule of law in civil affairs. 

Mr. Ge Lei gave a report themed on “Civil Code, the Protector of Your Legal Rights and Interests”. Starting with a brief introduction to the system and contents of the Civil Code, he cited specific cases from daily life to accentuate the contents on civil disputes, marriage and family, inheritance, and contracts, which helped the attendees gain more knowledge and skills in dealing with practical issues. 

At the end of the lecture, Mr. Lv Yan summarized that the lessons from the two experts are highly instructive and expected that all the attendees could better comprehend the significance, principles and contents of the Civil Code to make further contributions for the rule of law in Henan with due diligence under law-based governance across the board.
